Concrete Cutting Services

concrete cutting services

Concrete Drilling & Sawing Ltd. (CDS) has cut, cored, and scanned concrete on Ontario job sites since 1967. We are the longest-running concrete cutting company in the province, and our crews still show up the way we did in year one: on time, with the right saw, and ready to finish the job in one visit.

Whether the cut is a 2-inch control joint in a warehouse slab or a 24-inch wall opening in a bridge abutment, our operators have done it before — and the equipment on the truck reflects that experience.

What Concrete Cutting Covers

Concrete cutting is the controlled removal of hardened concrete using diamond-tipped blades, wires, or core barrels. The work spans four broad families:

  • Saw cutting — floor saws, road saws, and hand saws for slabs, pavements, and joints.
  • Wall sawing — track-mounted blades for vertical and overhead cuts up to 24 inches deep.
  • Wire sawing — diamond wire for mass concrete, irregular shapes, and sections beyond blade reach.
  • Core drilling — clean round holes from 1 inch to 60 inches for plumbing, electrical, HVAC, anchors, and inspections.

We pair every cut with GPR concrete scanning where rebar, post-tension cables, or buried conduit might be in the path. Cutting blind on a loaded structure is never worth the risk.

Our Cutting Process

1. Scope and site walk

A CDS estimator reviews drawings, visits the site if needed, and flags conditions the trades often miss — head height, slab thickness, adjacent services, water disposal, and dust control.

2. Pre-cut scanning

GPR or flux scanning locates rebar, conduit, and post-tension cables before the blade touches concrete. This step saves projects from structural damage and schedule delays.

3. Cutting

We pick the power source that suits the environment — gasoline, diesel, electric, or hydraulic — so indoor work stays safe and outdoor work stays productive.

4. Removal and clean-up

Slurry containment, vacuum recovery, and debris removal are built into the quote. The area we leave is ready for the next trade.

Projects We Cut

  • Doorways, window wells, and mechanical openings in existing walls
  • Trench drains and plumbing chases in industrial floors
  • Elevator pit and sump excavations
  • Road and parking lot repairs, joint repairs, and expansion joint cutting
  • Bridge deck repair, hydro dam modifications, and cistern cuts
  • Demolition prep and concrete removal staging

Why Ontario Chooses CDS

Fifty-eight years of continuous operation in one industry is rare. That record is built on three commitments: quality work, fair pricing, and showing up. Our operators are certified, our equipment is maintained daily, and our scheduler answers the phone — no call-centre triage.

We also keep a deep bench of saws. If a wall saw throws a belt at 2 a.m., the backup is already on the shelf. Downtime is the enemy of every construction schedule, and we plan against it.

Serving Hamilton and All of Ontario

From our Hamilton shop at 276 Ferrie St E, crews reach Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, Toronto, Brampton, Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph, Cambridge, St. Catharines, Niagara, London, and every point between. For projects in Northern Ontario, Eastern Ontario, or remote sites, we mobilize with self-contained power and water so work does not stall on access.

Frequently Asked Questions

How thick can you cut concrete?

With wire sawing, there is effectively no limit — we cut bridge piers and dam sections beyond 10 feet thick. Wall saws handle up to 24 inches in a single pass, and floor saws cover most slabs in one or two passes.

Do you scan before cutting?

Yes, on any cut where rebar, post-tension cables, or buried services could be present. GPR scanning is a standard line item on most of our quotes.

Can you cut indoors without dust?

Electric saws with water suppression and slurry vacuums keep interior cuts clean enough for occupied buildings, retail spaces, and hospitals.

How fast can you mobilize?

Same-day for emergencies in the Greater Hamilton and GTA area; next-day for most of southern Ontario. Call dispatch at (905) 529-6029.

Do you carry insurance and WSIB?

Yes — $5M liability, full WSIB compliance, and a current health-and-safety program. Certificates are available on request.

Equipment That Matches the Job

No two concrete cutting jobs are identical, and no single saw handles them all. Our fleet includes walk-behind and ride-on floor saws, track-mounted wall saws rated for 24-inch cuts, hydraulic wire saws for mass concrete, handheld gas and hydraulic cut-off saws, and a full range of core drills. Power sources cover gas, diesel, electric, and hydraulic — so indoor work stays emission-free and outdoor work does not wait for grid power.

Every saw is maintained on a preventive schedule: blades inspected per shift, hydraulics tested weekly, full service intervals logged. A truck rolling out of our Hamilton yard is a truck that will cut.

Working on Live Sites

Most of our work happens on active construction sites, occupied buildings, or live civil infrastructure. That reality shapes how we plan. We coordinate with site superintendents on lane closures, night windows, and dust controls. We bring our own water and slurry containment. We brief our operators on each site’s safety and access rules before the first cut. The result is a cutting crew that does not create coordination work for your site staff.
