What Steel Cutting Is

Steel cutting uses diamond-segmented blades and diamond wire to slice through structural and embedded metal without torch heat or heavy percussion. Where another contractor might reach for a cutting torch or a jackhammer, we make a precise, controlled cut that leaves the surrounding structure intact. That matters most when the steel is buried in concrete, sits next to finishes or live equipment, or has to be taken out in a specific sequence.

Our crews cut a lot of steel. In a typical week that includes:

How CDS Cuts Steel

Every job starts the same way it does for concrete: we scan before we cut. GPR and other locating tools tell us where the reinforcement, conduit, and embeds sit, so the blade meets steel on our terms rather than by surprise. Our diamond blades are workhorses — a properly specified blade will track through rebar and structural steel all day, and we match the blade or the wire to the metal, its thickness, and the space we have to work in.

For the heaviest sections — thick plate, bundled bar, or a steel-and-concrete composite member — we switch to diamond wire. Wire cuts have no practical depth limit and reach into places a blade cannot, which is why steel cutting and our diamond wire sawing service so often go together. The wire creates the opening or frees the section; it does not weld, fabricate, or replace anything — removal and demolition crews take it from there.

Diamond blades

Segmented diamond blades on hand saws, wall saws, and slab saws handle the majority of our steel cutting — rebar in a slab, embeds in a wall, plate on a landing. They are fast, accurate, and leave a square edge with no heat-affected zone in the surrounding metal.

Diamond wire

For oversized, heavily reinforced, or awkwardly placed steel, a diamond wire loop pulls through the section from almost any angle. It is how we take down composite columns and thick plate that a blade simply cannot reach.

The electric option for occupied buildings

When steel has to be cut inside a running plant, a hospital, a warehouse, or a tenanted building, we run electric-driven wire and blade equipment. Electric tools produce low emissions and less noise and dust than engine-driven or torch-based methods, so the cut is safe for occupied spaces and easier on everyone nearby. It is a small ESG advantage on the metal side of the work, and a large practical one when you cannot shut the building down.

Steel and Concrete on the Same Job

Most reinforced concrete is really a steel-and-concrete sandwich, so nearly every cut we make goes through both. That is the heart of our concrete cutting services — a saw line through a loaded slab or wall hits bar, mesh, and embeds as a matter of course, and the blade has to be ready for it.
